Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in my first session?

The first session is focused on connection above all else. Hunter will bring a curiosity to your current life, your story, and what brings you into counseling.

What are your fees?

Hunter charges $165 for a 50-minute counseling session. Hunter offers reduced-rate sessions for clients with financial limitations. Let Hunter know if you’re interested in learning more about a sliding-scale arrangement.

I see your degree is in marriage and family, does that mean that you only see couples and families?

Hunter is trained to see individual clients and currently over half of his client case load is individuals ranging in ages from 14-70. The “MFT” means that Hunter views each client as part of a system and that change is initiated by changing the client’s relationship to that system. It also means that Hunter views relationships as a place for healing, despite it being the place where so often people get hurt.

How do I know if I’m ready for counseling?

Broadly speaking, when you’re “sick and tired of being sick and tired.”

More specifically, when you’re ready to be “known” on a deeper level and to have a place where you can process your life with someone who will help you create a vision for your future. A willingness to engage, ask hard questions, and invest in yourself are also signs of readiness.

Do you take insurance?

Hunter does not accept insurance, but some insurance carriers will provide partial reimbursement with a “superbill” that is provided by Hunter. You’re encouraged to check with your insurance carrier if you’re interested in this arrangement.
